Karen customer said she won't move from the cash till until she gets her way.

So, years ago I worked at a 711. This happened during graveyard shift. On graveyard shift there's only one cashier on till And in my province, pre-paying for fuel was about 3-4 years was required by law, but a lot of older people Refused to prepay for their gas and would demand that they can just leave their card behind. Well, that's a no go. Considering the pumps were programmed that the pumps won't turn on until there's a payment or pre-auth. I can't simply "turn on the pump". Anyways, at arou

morning rush and I had thos Karen come up with her drinks and food and wanted me to turn on the pump and wait until her husband was done pumping. I explained how pre-auth works for fuel but she was not having none of it. I'm starting to get a line up of people getting their coffee and food and etc. I explain again I can't simply turn on the pump and pre-authorization is super easy. She doubled down and said she's going to stand here until I turn on the pump so they can gas up

and leave. At this time I'm getting annoyed and said, loudly "So, you're not going to prepay for gas and will hold upy line up?" She smugly said yes. So I grab her already scanned items that I bagged up and put away from her reach and stepped to the other till and stared serving the customer behind her and moving the line up to the other till. She was p off lol. And after serving 3 or 4 other customers on the next till she finally gave in and prepaid.

ShatterStorm76 · 23 hr. ago I watched a womand try this s at a mid-mall kiosk selling toys and puzzles. She wanted a refund for a puzzle she'd bought and after listening to her and checking it over they guy said it was fine, and he wouldnt give her a refund. She refused to accept that and tried the whole "I'm not moving from the register until I have my money back" thing...

So he called out a sorry for the delay folks, I should have this resolved shortly, I just need a few minutes. And said to her, "Just need to double check with you, but Im not refunding you and youre refusing to go away or let me serve other customers until I give you what you want right? And me telling you no, and please leave this store wont make you budge?"

Once she confirmed this for him, he said ok hold on while I make a call... he made a call out of her earshot, then stood waiting and chatting to other shoppers for about 4 minutes... ... until mall security showed up and told her she had been refused service and told to leave, so she could either walk out or be carried. (Hot tip, they actually carried her about 10 feet when she tried to engage them in an argument and theyd have none of it).

    • penguinpenguins · 1 day ago Reminds me of when I was waiting for a flight out of Japan. Maybe 20 mins before boarding a line up of people had formed, I have no idea why, maybe they thought they'd arrive earlier if they lined up to get on earlier than their fare class permitted.
  • 10
The gate agents just used their moveable queue barriers and fenced the m ns in so they couldn't get out, and so they could proceed with boarding everyone else normally.

rdsox13 1 day ago My favorite was when they would walk up, bypassing everyone in the line to hand me cash for their pre pay. I wouldn't enter the sale until the line was completely gone. Seeing the angry entitled faces when they come back in complaining that the pump isn't working was a highlight of the job.

Contrantier 16 hr. ago There was a burger restaurant inside my old college cafeteria, and this one time I was in the back of the line. This guy came in and walked past the line with this careless swagger, and held out his card. "Pepsi." Woman behind the register was in the middle of taking someone else's order. She just turned to him with an annoyed expression and said "back of the line."
  • 13
He got mad and said "I just want a Pepsi!" She was like "you ain't more special than nunna these people. Back of the line." He stormed out.

    • really4got 1 day ago I'm old enough to remember pumps you didn't have to prepay on... I worked in a gas station 30 years ago where we didn't do prepay, night shifts I'd shut down the pumps I couldn't see... off the customers, ped off my boss, and management company but no... I'm not running out trying to get a plate for drive offs

amberlicious35 · 1 day ago My husband and I own a gas station in a really small town. Closest gas on our road is 12ish miles in either direction. A lot of people come off another road to head south and haven't seen a gas station for 40+ miles....smallIII towns. They're usually on E and panicking.

We have old pumps (flip the lever, no pay at the pump, no programming kinda old) we're a pump first then pay kinda place. The amount of times people have said. "I JUST want $20" and angrily throw a $20 on the counter and then pump $60+ is hilarious. It happened today. A dude was annoyed because he had to pump first and said "$30" angrily and pumped $32. He came back in and also bought a soda and I took great joy in telling him, "that's why we don't do pre payment."

(Important note: we have GREAT cameras, with audio, and if we call the sheriffs...there's only 3 ways to go before they'd get them, and small town life...we're good. Also, never had an issue, who wants a f charge?)

fieria_tetra 1 day ago I worked in a petro booth for a couple years with the same policy. Same thing happened - woman came up demanding I turn the pump on without payment cause she didn't know how much she'd need. When I refused repeatedly and she realized I wasn't going to budge, she called me a hy and left.

Contrantier 17 hr. ago "Okay," said the cashier, and continued to stand there staring at the Karen, who awkwardly shifted from foot to foot while all the customers behind her, who had heard every word, started yelling at her, tapping her on the shoulder, and pelting her with gas station hot dogs.

W1ldth1ng 1 day ago • Well done you. This is how to beat them at their own game. Feel free to stand there while I serve customers. Also when she decided to prepay I would make her join the end of the queue.

Alfred-Register7379 1 day ago Depending on the neighborhood. You handled it very well. I would of asked to hold her valid driver's license or gov ID., and put her items behind you. While he pumped. Then moved to the next till. Really bind her to the register, so to speak.

boyinblack13x OP. 1 day ago Yes, but the computers aren't programmed to allow me to simply turn on a pump without pre payment or a pre-auth on a card.
  • 27
boyinblack13x OP 1 day ago • She could of said $100 on pump 1 paid with card and the computer would of auto adjust the payment, which it was known for years at this time
